Life has been quite hectic lately. The past three vacations I’ve been on, I’ve only had a week in between to recover, or at least try to! I’ve become pretty good at getting back into a routine so I’m here to share some tips!
Before leaving for your adventure, prepare for your return. It will make your return so much more relaxed! Take care of errands, clean, take out the trash, clean the fridge, etc, so that when you come home you can just focus on resting!
Pencil in that recovery time so that you have a day or two to adjust to being back at home. It’s always such a bummer when you come home and have to work the next day! Plus, work is just miserable the day after a vacation.
Traveling home can be tiring and exhausting. All I want to do when I get home is sleep for 16 hours straight, and be super lazy. Switch your sleep schedule slowly after a trip to avoid major jet-lag. Set your alarm to a reasonable time, take a nap when you need to, and chug that coffee.
Some may think I’m nuts but as soon as I’m home, I throw my dirty laundry into the wash and unpack. I thrive in a clean and organized environment; therefore if my room is a mess or piled with stuff, I’m going to stress. I’d rather get it out of the way so I can relax and not have to worry about it!
After a long vacation I like to eat a bit healthier and cook at home. On vacation I always indulge, because it’s vacation! The best thing to do is get groceries delivered or go grocery shopping the next morning after returning home. The day I get back I usually pick up a salad or a smoothie on the way home!
Get some exercise. During vacation I normally don’t workout too much, so once I’m home I like to ease into my workout routine. I start by taking walks, or going for a light jog. After doing this a few times, I go back to my normal workout routine.
Last but not least, plan/pick your next vacation so you have something to look forward to!
